What 'Verified by Connect' Means and Why It Cannot Be Faked

The 'Verified by Connect' credential certifies that a physical on-site capture event occurred. It cannot be self-generated and cannot be applied retroactively to a self-entered record.

Not All Records Carry the Same Weight

The Crawlspace Blueprint Registry™ accepts two types of records. A property owner can build a self-entered draft using exterior measurements and known feature locations. A Crawl-Space Connect© field team can conduct an on-site capture that produces a field-verified record.

Both records live in the same Registry. Both carry timestamps. Both serve as working documentation of the crawlspace. But only one of them carries the "Verified by Connect" credential — and the distinction between a verified record and a self-entered one is not a matter of preference. It is a matter of how the record was produced.

What the Credential Certifies

The "Verified by Connect" credential certifies three things.

A physical capture event occurred. A Crawl-Space Connect© field team was present at the property. A team member entered the crawlspace. The documentation was produced from direct observation of the space, not from owner descriptions, prior reports, or exterior measurements.

The spatial record reflects the space as found at capture. The 2D plan view and the 360° Space-Crawler™ navigable capture were produced from field data collected during the capture event. The footprint, feature placements, and visual record reflect the crawlspace as it existed on the documented date.

The documentation is independent of the owner's representation. In a self-entered draft, all information comes from the property owner. In a field-verified record, the spatial documentation comes from the Connect field team. The two sources are different in a way that matters to buyers, trade partners, and anyone else who relies on the record for decision-making.

The credential is a certification of provenance. It answers the question: where did this documentation come from?

Why It Cannot Be Self-Generated

The "Verified by Connect" credential is tied to a capture event in the Registry's record structure. A capture event is a logged action: it records the date, the field team credentials, and the property address. The credential is applied to the record by the system at the time the field-verified documentation is processed. It cannot be applied by the property owner, cannot be selected as an option in the self-entry tools, and cannot be added to a self-entered draft after the fact.

This is not a policy restriction that can be worked around. It is a structural feature of how the credential is issued. The system that produces the credential requires a capture event as an input. Without a capture event logged in the Registry, the credential does not exist for that record.

A property owner who wants the "Verified by Connect" credential must schedule an on-site capture. There is no other path to the credential.

What a Self-Entered Record Is — and Isn't

A self-entered draft is a legitimate and useful form of documentation. A property owner who uses the Walk-Around Wizard or the Find My House footprint tool to build a working Blueprint has produced a spatial record based on their best knowledge of the property. That record is immediately useful: it gives trade partners a layout to reference, it provides a document repository for attached files, and it establishes the spatial framework that a field capture will later verify and refine.

A self-entered draft is self-reported documentation. It is the owner's representation of what the crawlspace contains, based on their knowledge at the time of entry. It is not independently verified. It is not certified to reflect the space as found by an independent observer.

The distinction is analogous to a homeowner describing their roof's condition versus a certified roofing inspector examining and documenting it. Both pieces of information have value. They do not have the same evidentiary weight.

Who the Credential Matters To

The "Verified by Connect" credential is most relevant in three contexts.

Property transactions. A buyer reviewing a Crawlspace Blueprint™ as part of their due diligence on a property is looking at a record produced by someone. If the record carries the "Verified by Connect" credential, they know it was produced by an independent field team from direct observation. If it does not, they know it is self-reported. Both are disclosed by the record structure. The credential gives buyers a clear signal about the record's source.

Trade partner planning. A trade partner who has not previously visited a crawlspace uses the Blueprint to understand the space before entering it. A field-verified record with the 360° Space-Crawler™ navigable capture gives them independent documentation of what the space contained at capture. A self-entered draft gives them the owner's description.

Portfolio management. A property manager or institutional owner maintaining documentation standards across multiple properties can use the "Verified by Connect" credential to distinguish properties with independently verified records from those with self-reported documentation.

Current Availability

On-site field captures by Crawl-Space Connect© are currently available in South Carolina. The Registry itself — including self-entered draft Blueprint creation — is open to property owners nationwide.

This means that the "Verified by Connect" credential is currently available for South Carolina properties. Properties outside South Carolina can enroll in the Registry, build a self-entered draft, and establish a working record. As on-site capture availability expands geographically, those records can be upgraded to field-verified status through a scheduled capture event.

The credential, once issued, is tied to the date of the capture event. If a subsequent capture is conducted — to update the record after a renovation, after a significant trade-partner correction, or as part of a pre-sale documentation process — a new "Verified by Connect" entry is added to the record with the new capture date. Both entries remain in the record.

The Standard the Credential Maintains

The value of the "Verified by Connect" credential depends entirely on the standard it represents. If the credential could be applied to any record regardless of how it was produced, it would carry no information. Its value is precisely that it cannot be self-generated.

This is the same logic that underlies professional certifications, laboratory test results, and title company verifications. The credential is meaningful because it certifies something specific — a physical event, an independent observer, a dated and documented capture — and because that something cannot be manufactured without the event actually occurring.
